Bowling Green, Kentucky (NOVEMBER 21, 2025) – The United Way of Southern Kentucky Board of Directors unanimously voted to provide emergency funding to eleven local food pantries. The nonprofit food pantries, which are located in six different counties, will each receive $2,500. The funding will aid the organizations in replenishing extremely low food inventory and prepare for any on-going needs.
In recent months 211 of Southern Kentucky, which is operated by United Way, has reported a sharp rise in desperate calls for food assistance. Through ongoing outreach and coordination with nearly 30 local nonprofits that provide food services, 211 recognized an urgent gap in available resources. In response, United Way of Southern Kentucky initiated emergency funding to help ensure these local nonprofit agencies can continue meeting the rising demand for food.
“Our vision is a Southern Kentucky where every resident is educated, healthy, and financially stable—and meeting basic needs like food is foundational to that goal. When we saw the rise in calls for food and heard the concerns of our nonprofit partners, we knew we had to act quickly. United Way of Southern Kentucky will always work to understand emerging needs in our community, collaborate with local government and nonprofit agencies, and respond with the resources that can make the greatest impact,” stated Debbie Hills, President and CEO of United Way of Southern Kentucky.
