JOINT PROCLAMATION ISSUED BY CITY OF BOWLING GREEN AND WARREN COUNTY FISCAL GOVERNMENT IN RECOGNITION OF NATIONAL 211 DAY

Bowling Green, Kentucky (February 11, 2025) – In recognition of National 211 Day, a proclamation was issued today at Bowling Green City Hall to highlight the essential services provided by 211. This free and confidential helpline connects residents across the 10-county Barren River Area Development District with vital resources, including housing assistance, food, utility support, and more.

The official proclamation declaring February 11, 2025, as “211 Day” in Bowling Green and Warren County was read by Warren County Judge Executive Doug Gorman, City of Bowling Green Mayor Todd Alcott, and Bowling Green City Commissioners Dana Beasley-Brown and Melinda Hill.

Throughout 2024, 211 contact specialists spent 26,369 minutes helping 7,036 individuals who reached out via texting, calling, or other means. Southern Kentucky 211 has aided those individuals by searching for available resources in their database and providing 21,369 nonprofit agency referrals.

“211 is a lifeline for individuals and families facing challenges, connecting them with essential resources in their time of need. Today, National 211 Day, is an opportunity to raise awareness about this invaluable service and remind our community that help is just a call or text away. No matter the need, 211 provides guidance and support, ensuring that no one has to navigate difficult times alone,” stated Ellie Harbaugh, Executive Vice President of United Way of Southern Kentucky.

The Federal Communications Commission assigned 211 as a three-digit telephone number for the purpose of providing quick and easy access to information about health and human services. Here locally 211 is available by text at 898-211. Contact specialists work with callers or texters to assess their needs, determine their options and provide information and referral services that can offer assistance and/or intervene in crisis situations. The center is able to take calls and text messages 24/7/365.

In honor of National 211 Day, the Southern Kentucky 211 Contact Center asks that individuals across Southern Kentucky help celebrate by spreading the word about the 211 services available in our area via social media and/or within your organizations, companies and businesses.
