THE UNITED WAY OF SOUTHERN KENTUCKY CELEBRATES A RECORD-BREAKING NUMBER OF VOLUNTEER PROJECTS BEING COMPLETED DURING THE ANNUAL DAY OF CARING

(July 25, 2024) – Over 850 volunteers participated in the sixteenth annual Day of Caring on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Volunteers were able to sign up with companies and organizations or as individuals. The purpose of the annual event is to Live United in a collective effort to improve the community. This year’s Day of Caring allowed for nearly 90 nonprofit projects to be completed in seven counties throughout southern Kentucky.

In the months leading up to the Day of Caring, nonprofits throughout the Barren River Area Development District submitted projects that they needed help with or drive requests for supplies they could utilize to help others. In total 96 nonprofit projects were submitted. Then, teams of volunteers and individuals were matched with projects on a first come, first serve basis. In the coming weeks the projects that were postponed due to rain chances or other factors will be completed also.

The United Way Day of Caring is focused on aiding nonprofits, but it also provides a different environment for organizations and individuals to team-build, network, and build comradery. Projects included yardwork, painting, organization, cleaning, garden installs, construction, and more. Additionally, volunteers delivered a record number of Kindergarten Readiness kits, with 3,000 early childhood education kits being delivered throughout the region.

“We are truly blown away by this year’s Day of Caring. Our goal every year is to assist more nonprofit agencies in our community, and to have a record number of projects submitted was moving and motivating. At the end of the day, the community stepped up, and we are confident all the projects will be completed, and the impact for nonprofits will be long lasting,” said Debbie Hills, President & CEO of United Way of Southern Kentucky. “To all the organizations’ and individual volunteers, thank you for helping make a difference in our community and assisting so many nonprofit agencies during this year’s Day of Caring.”
